÷ºÎÆÄÀÏ :

Welcoming speech by academician Alexander Sergeev,

President of the Russian Academy of Sciences,

Co-Chair of ¡°The 21st World Korea Forum in Moscow¡± Committee

Dear Professor Tshangchu RHEE,

President of Korea Global Foundation,

Distinguished participants

of ¡°The 21st World Korea Forum in Moscow¡±

Ladies and gentlemen,

Dear colleagues,

Let me first welcome all participants of the Forum by saying in Russian ¡°¬©¬¥¬²¬¡¬£¬³¬´¬£¬µ¬«¬´¬¦!¡± This is one of the most important words in the Russian language that means not only HELLO, but also STAY HEALTHY. Nowadays this aspect of our lives is relevant than ever.

It is a great honor for me and for the whole Russian scientific community to host this meeting in Moscow at the Russian Academy of Sciences in spite we do it on-line through the video conference, the format that more and more gains the modern world.

I am very grateful that you all join this meeting to share its important tasks and its rich agenda.

This year, which is close to its end, brought to our countries a rich experience marked in its highlights with the impressive figures.

It is the year when Russia celebrates the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, victory over the forces of Nazism, and destruction.

It is the year of the 75th anniversary of Korean Liberation.

It is the year when we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Korea.

I take this opportunity to congratulate the participants of the Forum with these significant dates in the history of our countries.

I also congratulate you on the successful beginning of this remarkable event and express my gratitude to its organizers. I am praising highly the efforts of the Korea Global Foundation to keep working effectively in complicated conditions of the present unstable world.

As the participant of the 21st World Korea Forum in Moscow, I appreciate very much the initiative of the Korea Global Foundation to bring together the discourse of opinion-makers, political and scientific leaders from different countries to propose ideas for the joint prosperity and peaceful coexistence. The complexity of challenges we face today calls for an ever-greater expansion of human knowledge and enhanced connections between science, policy, and society. As a scientist I am sure that science and technology are able and obliged to contribute to the promotion of progress and peace; moreover, science, and technology have the utmost crucial roles to play in it. We have to explore and implement into our action new technologies and instruments able to make science-policy interface research studies work in practice. Be it natural sciences, or human and social ones, it occurs to me as a matter of special importance that we as the result of our deliberations generate new ideas and approaches thus enriching the common way of thinking.

To be specific about the Russian-Korean scientific relations I can't help mentioning our joint research in such fields of science as electronics and telecommunications, physics, biology, biochemistry, history, and literature. As a result of joint scientific work, new world-class results were obtained, which were published in high-ranking scientific journals and reported at leading world conferences. Russian-Korean scientific relations have great potential. Our goal is to use this potential to the full.

In conclusion, let me wish to all of you a lot of energy and success to generate the ideas in the field of your occupation that could provide future peaceful, prosperous, political, and scientific co-existence.

           Thank you.
