Congratulatory Remarks to 21st World Korea Forum

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Korea
I express my sincere congratulations on the opening of the 21st World Korea Forum as one of the highly credible international discussion platforms on pending global and regional peace and security issues. Let me offer my deep gratitude to Prof. Alexander Sergeev, the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Chairman of the Congress, Co-Presidents of the Congress Mr. Lee Bu-young and Sohn Kyung-shik, Chairman of the Organizing Committee Mr. Rhee Tshangchu, as well as other distinguished guests, scholars and experts,
On September 30 we have reached an important milestone – the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Korea. Over the past three decades our countries succeeded in building modern relations based on the principles of friendship, mutual respect and win-win cooperation. The Republic of Korea has become one of Russia’s key partners in Asia. Remarkable results have been achieved in various spheres of bilateral ties.
Presidents of Russia and Korea maintain intensive dialogue, met in person more than 30 times, and regularly exchange personal messages. Parliaments, governments and relevant agencies work closely on broad range of issues, continue to join efforts in order to face new global challenges. Bilateral cooperation covers different spheres including oil and gas, automobile and electronics, offshore and shipbuilding, atomic energy and aerospace. Russia-Korea trade volume reached $ 25 bln in 2019.
I am confident that taking into account growing significance of the Asia-Pacific region Russia and Korea have a good opportunity to realize their great potential and contribute to prosperity in the region. And, I hope that the Congress hosted under the theme ‘New Order for Peace and Co-existence in East Asia and the Era of Eurasia’ will help to find new solutions for promoting Russia-Korea partnership and achieving our common goals of ensuring long-lasting stability and security on the Korean peninsula, in North-East Asia and in the Eurasian area.
I wish all the participants of the 21st World Korea Forum fruitful discussions and success in their activities.
